Dhurandhar 2 storms box office with historic Rs. 100 crore opening, sets new benchmark

If there was any doubt about whether Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge would live up to its massive expectations, the box office has answered that question loud and clear.

Starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, Dhurandhar 2 has not only had a huge opening but has also redefined what a Bollywood opening-day is. This film was released in theatres on March 19 and came into theatres with exceptional buzz. What followed was a historic moment in Indian cinema history.

Backed by staggering advance bookings and record-breaking paid previews, the second instalment of the film made Rs. 100 crores on its first day, making it the first Hindi movie to do so. What is even more impressive is how much momentum the film built before release; paid previews had produced revenue of approximately Rs. 43 crores before day one began officially. After that, it became an absolute box-office takeover.

Trade sources indicate that, among all of the box office collections (including the first day in previews), Dhurandhar 2 earned around Rs. 140 crores worldwide on opening day, making it one of the biggest opening day collections in both Bollywood and Indian cinema history.

If we speak about the data on the sales of tickets sold for the previous films, it states that theatres have been filling up throughout urban markets and rural ones, as well, with many of the bigger theatres having experienced record numbers for evening and night-time screenings. Well, this doesn’t happen for every release, and we all know that. The movie’s continued success was not even impacted by minor hiccups like regional show cancellations, as it still remained unstoppable.

In addition, Dhurandhar 2’s strong opening day numbers demonstrate its ability to overtake many recent blockbusters, specifically the big three (Jawan, Pathaan, and Animal), and establish a new standard for opening days of Hindi films.

Ranveer Singh continues to play a pivotal role in the success of this film and is consistently entertaining audiences both on stage with his incredible performances and on screen with his overwhelming physicality. Director Aditya Dhar’s scale-driven storytelling has also played a key role in turning the sequel into a theatrical event.

Although it is still early in the movie run, Dhurandhar 2 appears to be poised for a long, dominant, and highly profitable run. If the current pace continues, the film could be on its way to becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films in history.

Ultimately, it is very clear that this isn’t just a successful opening, it’s a statement!
