DRI Seizes 7,500 Bottles of Codeine-Based Cough Syrup in Patna; Two Arrested

Patna: In a major anti-drug operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 7,500 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup and arrested two individuals in Patna, Bihar. Acting on specific intelligence regarding the illegal diversion of a large consignment of codeine-based cough syrup, DRI officers intercepted a Tata Intra pickup truck outside Rajendranagar Terminal Railway Station on May 26.

During the operation, officials recovered 7,500 bottles of Codeine Phosphate and Triprolidine Hydrochloride Syrup marketed under the brand name ESkuf. The two individuals found with the consignment presented transport documents and invoices for the shipment.

However, subsequent verification by DRI officials revealed that the drug licence of the listed consignee had been cancelled and the firm was not operating from the address mentioned in the records.

Following the completion of legal formalities, the cough syrup consignment and the vehicle used for transportation were seized. The two accused were arrested under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The operation forms part of DRI’s ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances across India. Officials have launched a detailed investigation into the supply network, financial transactions, and the possible involvement of other firms and individuals connected to the case.
