Urban Development Gets ₹7,762 Crore Allocation

Mumbai: The Urban Development Department has emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries in Maharashtra’s Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2026-27, receiving additional provisions of over ₹7,762 crore. The allocation reflects the state government’s strong focus on strengthening urban infrastructure, improving civic services and supporting local self-governing bodies across Maharashtra.

According to the supplementary demands presented before the Maharashtra Legislature, a significant portion of the additional funding has been earmarked for urban development initiatives, district administration, transport-related services and financial assistance to municipal corporations, municipal councils and panchayat institutions. The allocation is expected to support ongoing infrastructure projects while enabling the launch of new development initiatives in rapidly growing urban areas.

With Maharashtra witnessing increasing urbanisation and growing pressure on civic amenities, the additional funds are likely to be utilised for upgrading roads, public transport systems, drainage networks, water supply facilities and other essential urban infrastructure. The provisions are also expected to strengthen the financial capacity of local bodies responsible for delivering key public services.

Government officials said the enhanced allocation will help improve urban governance, accelerate infrastructure development and ensure better delivery of civic amenities to citizens. The move is expected to benefit major cities as well as emerging urban centres across the state, contributing to balanced and sustainable urban growth.
