Maharashtra Clears ₹10 Crore Aid for Flood-Hit Alandi

MUMBAI, JULY 8: The Maharashtra Government has sanctioned a special financial package of ₹10 crore for the restoration of civic infrastructure in flood-affected Alandi, which suffered extensive damage due to recent heavy rainfall and flooding.

The Urban Development Department approved the fund following directions from Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, who instructed the Alandi Municipal Council to begin restoration work immediately on a war footing.

With lakhs of Warkaris expected to arrive in Alandi for the upcoming Ashadhi Ekadashi Palkhi procession, the government has prioritised the repair of essential public infrastructure. Floodwaters washed away temporary toilets, submerged the town’s water treatment plant, damaged water supply pipelines, uprooted streetlights and electric poles, eroded roads, and damaged protective barriers along the river, creating major challenges for residents and pilgrims.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also been closely monitoring the situation and guiding the administration to ensure that restoration work is completed at the earliest. Shinde reviewed the flood situation with Alandi Municipal Council Chief Officer Madhav Khandekar and also interacted with Warkaris through video conferencing to understand their concerns.

Of the total allocation, ₹5 crore will be released under a special grant for civic works. This includes ₹3 crore for restoring the water distribution network and other essential services, ₹1 crore for installing new streetlights and poles, and ₹1 crore for constructing toilets and sanitation facilities for devotees.

An additional ₹5 crore has been sanctioned under the Special Road Grant Scheme for the urgent repair of flood-damaged roads, bridges and roadside drainage systems within the municipal limits.

The state government has directed officials to expedite all restoration work to ensure that pilgrims and local residents face minimal inconvenience during the Ashadhi Wari.
