Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal has denied reports suggesting a potential alliance with Congress for the upcoming 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. Taking to social media platform X, the Delhi Chief Minister reiterated, “Aam Aadmi Party will contest these elections on its own strength in Delhi. There is no possibility of any alliance with Congress.”
No alliance with Congress
This statement comes amidst rising tensions within the INDIA bloc, as both AAP and Congress have firmly rejected any possibility of an alliance in the national capital. The issue has sparked a war of words among opposition parties, with both sides maintaining that they will fight the polls independently. AAP has released a second list of 20 candidates for the 2025 elections, including several recent joiners. Notably, two sitting MLAs, Manish Sisodia and Rakhi Birla, have been shifted out of their constituencies, Patparganj and Mangolpuri, respectively. New faces like Avadh Ojha, Dinesh Bharadwaj, and Surender Pal Singh Bittu have been fielded in constituencies across Delhi.
Key AAP members opted out from the assembly elections
The party also announced the exclusion of 16 sitting MLAs from the list of candidates, following its first list released in November. Furthermore, key AAP members, Shahdara MLA Ram Niwas Goel and Timarpur MLA Dilip Pandey, have opted out of the 2025 elections. The Delhi Assembly polls are scheduled for February 2025. In the previous 2020 elections, AAP secured a landslide victory, winning 63 out of 70 seats. The BJP and Congress are expected to mount strong challenges this time.
More troubles for INDI block
In another political development, Kejriwal’s recent meeting with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar has added to speculations surrounding the shifting dynamics within the opposition alliance, particularly in the context of growing calls for West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to lead the INDIA bloc.
