Hero MotoCorp Names Harshavardhan Chitale as CEO

Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, announced the appointment of Harshavardhan Chitale as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 5, 2026. This strategic decision aims to steer the company towards its next phase of growth, focusing on innovation, digital transformation, and a robust entry into electric mobility.

A Visionary Leader with Global Expertise

Harshavardhan Chitale brings over three decades of global leadership experience across B2B and B2C sectors. His expertise spans industrial automation, lighting, information technology services, and digital transformation.

Most recently, he served as the Global CEO of Signify’s €4 billion Professional Business, leading 12,000 employees across 70 countries. In this role, he spearheaded initiatives in manufacturing, supply chain, product development, and digital strategies. Prior to that, Chitale was Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Philips Lighting India, where he successfully executed its spin-off into a publicly listed entity, strengthening its market leadership. He has also held senior leadership positions at HCL Infosystems and Honeywell Automation India, driving transformative growth and delivering shareholder value.

Strategic Alignment with Hero MotoCorp’s Vision

Chitale’s appointment aligns with Hero MotoCorp’s strategic vision to accelerate its transition towards electric and emerging mobility solutions. Chairman Pawan Munjal emphasized that Chitale’s leadership will expedite the company’s shift into the electric vehicle (EV) segment, aiming to capture the growing demand for sustainable transportation options. This move comes at a time when Hero MotoCorp is focusing on innovation and expanding its product portfolio to include electric two-wheelers, positioning itself as a leader in the evolving mobility landscape.

Seamless Transition and Continued Leadership

As part of the leadership transition, Vikram Kasbekar, who has been serving as acting CEO following Niranjan Gupta’s resignation earlier in 2025, will step down from the interim role. Kasbekar will continue to serve on the board as Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer, ensuring continuity in the company’s technological advancements and strategic initiatives.

A Forward-Looking Approach

Chitale’s appointment is expected to infuse Hero MotoCorp with a forward-looking approach, focusing on innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability. His extensive experience in leading multinational corporations through growth and restructuring in India, the United States, and Europe will be instrumental in navigating the challenges and opportunities in the global two-wheeler market.

With a strong emphasis on electric mobility, Hero MotoCorp aims to redefine the future of transportation, combining its legacy of excellence with a commitment to sustainability and technological advancement.
