Australia clinched their record-extending sixth ICC Cricket World Cup title overnight, halting India’s dominant streak in their home tournament.
Led by captain Pat Cummins, the team secured a six-wicket victory against India, dashing the hopes of the home nation to reclaim the trophy after 12 years. Middle-order batter Travis Head scored 137 runs from 120 balls and Marnus Labuschagne scored 58 from 110 balls as Australia cruised home.
Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, presented the winners with the World Cup trophy alongside Australia’s deputy prime minister Richard Marles.
