BMW ropes in Ranveer Singh as its new brand ambassador

BMW India has found a new voice, and it is difficult to imagine one much louder than Ranveer Singh.
The German luxury carmaker has appointed the Bollywood actor as its Brand Voice, with the association unveiled at the launch of the new BMW 7 Series in New Delhi. Singh arrived in the top-of-the-line BMW i7 M70 before unveiling the new flagship range, turning what could have been a conventional product launch into a piece of brand theatre.
The choice makes sense when viewed through BMW’s recent communication strategy. Earlier this year, BMW India introduced its “Drive Your Match” campaign, built around the idea that a BMW should reflect an individual’s personality, aspirations, and lifestyle. The campaign moved the conversation from simply choosing a car towards recognising a car as an expression of identity. BMW explicitly positioned individuality and self-expression at the centre of its brand communication.
Ranveer Singh fits neatly into that narrative. His public persona is built around individuality, experimentation, theatricality, and a willingness to be conspicuous. Those characteristics give BMW something a conventional luxury endorsement often cannot: a recognisable cultural personality that can carry the brand beyond specifications and product features.
As BMW’s India story becomes broader, a distinctive voice like Singh’s will be vital. The timing of his selection is therefore significant. BMW is selling more than the idea of a luxury sedan. It is increasingly selling a portfolio of choices, from performance-oriented cars to electric luxury, and trying to make those choices feel personally relevant. Singh gives that strategy a human face.
There is also a useful symmetry in the pairing. BMW’s brand proposition has historically revolved around driving pleasure, performance, and distinctive engineering. Singh brings a similar sense of movement and personality to popular culture. BMW itself says the new association will centre on individuality, emotional connection, and the joy of movement.
The real test will come after the launch lights fade. A celebrity can create attention in a moment. The harder task is making that personality work consistently across campaigns, products, and customer experiences.
For BMW India, Ranveer Singh is now being asked to do precisely that: turn a luxury automobile brand into an even more recognisable expression of individuality.
