Will YRF Repeat the Saiyaara Formula for Ahaan Panday?

When Saiyaara released, it did not only introduce Ahaan Panday to the public, it quietly wrote the new rules for launching films that involve newcomers. There were no tours around the country, no interviews, no dance contests that flooded social media and practically no standard promotional campaign. Instead, both Yash Raj Films and the director Mohit Suri allowed the music, intrigue, and curiosity of the audience speak. The ruse worked out amazingly well, making the romantic drama one of the biggest stories of success last year.

Now, with Ahaan’s second movie scheduled to be released on March 26, 2027, the question is not only about the film but about whether YRF will want to rely on silence instead of promotion again.

The upcoming action and romance film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar remains untitled but features Sharvari opposite Ahaan. Besides, Bobby Deol and Aaishvary Thackeray take on important roles. Unlike Saiyaara grounded in the love story with many songs, the project that will come out promises an extensive action extravaganza with a love story component. As per some reports, Ahaan will represent a hard-hearted gangster, which arouses huge interest and fascination.

After Saiyaara suggested that overexposure may not always be necessary, YRF suddenly seems to have a marketing scheme that not many studios possess. They had created curiosity rather than familiarizing the audiences with each and every scene before the release. By restricting the main lead’s visibility and letting the soundtrack be the strongest messenger for the movie, they were able to turn curiosity into ticket sales.

Can lightning strike twice? The answer may not be as straightforward.

It may seem that repeating the same “no marketing” concept is great in theory, but Ali Abbas Zafar’s movie belongs to a completely different genre. Big-budget action movies usually succeed due to their impact and the promo acts as a teaser for the following marketing. Making people want to see an action movie is different from making them interested in an emotional film like Saiyaara, so a simple repetition of the previous strategy may not work.

However, we shouldn’t exclude the possibility of YRF borrowing some ideas from their recent profit. They may use a well-controlled promotional strategy, Ahaan and Sharvari’s limited appearances, music as a marketing tool, and secrecy.

There is one thing that is clear: Ahaan Panday has to deal with increased expectations now. Although a successful debut is commendable, the difficulty lies in maintaining that momentum. Since Ali Abbas Zafar returns to YRF to direct the film, Sharvari is roped in as the female lead, and comparisons with Saiyaara are inevitable, all the promotional efforts of the film will be monitored closely by many.

While Saiyaara teaches Bollywood that sometimes less is more, Ahaan Panday’s next film will decide, if this was just a one-off event or the beginning of a new YRF strategy.
