Eetha Trailer: Shraddha Kapoor Plays Tamasha Legend Vithabai Narayangaonkar

The Laxman Utekar biopic, out December 4, shows a transformed Shraddha Kapoor in a world of Lavani, folk theatre and personal struggle.

The trailer for Eetha is out, giving a first look at Shraddha Kapoor as Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, one of Maharashtra’s best-known Tamasha and Lavani performers. The film is directed by Laxman Utekar. The trailer shows Shraddha in a look far from her usual screen image, set amid energetic Lavani performances, dramatic scenes and emotional moments that put the world of Tamasha front and centre.

Shraddha Kapoor’s new role

Shraddha plays Vithabai through her rise from humble beginnings to a place among the best-known performers of Maharashtra’s Tamasha tradition. The trailer stresses her passion for performance, her resilience through personal hardship and her commitment to the stage. Rich costumes, traditional music and high-energy dance numbers build the period setting, with Shraddha’s performance at the heart of the story.

The cast and the team

Randeep Hooda plays Anna Sawant Merchant, Vithabai’s husband, and the cast also includes Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. Randeep’s first look was revealed earlier.

Utekar, whose earlier films include Chhaava, leads a team that includes Maddock Films and the music composers Ajay–Atul, who set out to recreate the cultural atmosphere of Maharashtra’s folk-performance tradition.

Who was Vithabai Narayangaonkar?

Vithabai is a major figure in Maharashtra’s folk-art heritage, known for her stage presence and devotion to Tamasha. Her performances reached audiences across generations, and her life was marked by serious personal struggle. The Indian Express has written about her life and legacy.

One often-told account says she went back on stage after giving birth backstage during a performance. It has become a symbol of her dedication to her art, but it is a reported story, and the film’s own version may differ. Through Eetha, the makers hope to draw fresh attention to her contribution and to the heritage of Lavani and Tamasha.

Release date

Eetha is set for a theatrical release on December 4, 2026, and marks Shraddha Kapoor’s return to the big screen. With the trailer out, attention turns to how the film portrays Vithabai’s journey and whether it lives up to the visual richness the trailer promises.
