Mumbai: Maharashtra is moving towards becoming a major shipbuilding and maritime industrial hub in India with a proposal to establish the advanced “United Sadav Integrated Maritime Complex” at Nandgaon in Palghar district at an estimated investment of ₹4,150 crore.
State Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane said the project would significantly strengthen Maharashtra’s maritime economy and help position the state as a global maritime hub.
The minister was speaking during a meeting held to discuss the development of shipyards at Nandgaon in the Vadhvan region and at Dighi. Maharashtra Maritime Board Chief Executive Officer Pradeep P. representatives of United Sadav Integrated Maritime Private Limited, including Vedant Chaudhary and Amber Ayde, along with senior officials, attended the meeting.
As per the proposal submitted to the Maharashtra Maritime Board a world-class integrated maritime facility will be developed over 600 acres near the upcoming deep-water Vadhvan Port. The complex will include shipbuilding and ship repair facilities, dry docks, offshore services and a green ship recycling centre.
The proposed investment for the project is around 500 million US dollars, and the first phase of work is expected to commence within the next two years.
The company has sought support from the state government in the form of land on a renewable 30-year lease, mega project status, single-window clearances, capital subsidies, skill development assistance and coordination for various regulatory approvals.
Minister Nitesh Rane directed officials of the Maharashtra Maritime Board and the company to conduct a joint site inspection of the Nandgaon area and submit a detailed report.
He said the Maharashtra government would give priority to projects that promote maritime investment, employment generation, green technology and local development. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to making Maharashtra a leading state in the country’s blue economy sector.
