Compal and Kalyani Powertrain Collaborate to Power India’s Tech Infrastructure with Local Servers

Data Centre Servers Now Proudly “Make in India”

In a strategic move to bolster India’s technology infrastructure, Kalyani Powertrain, a subsidiary of Bharat Forge, has entered a technology licensing agreement with Taiwan’s Compal Electronics. The collaboration, announced on March 6, 2025, will pave the way for the production of X86 platform servers in India, supporting the nation’s “Make in India” initiative.

The partnership will see Compal providing Kalyani Powertrain with critical technological support, including assistance in local server production, assembly, testing, and final sales processes. Kalyani Powertrain, which began its production at a newly established manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra, earlier this year, will now enhance India’s capacity to produce homegrown server solutions for a variety of sectors, including AI, cloud computing, and data processing.

Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in advancing India’s manufacturing capabilities and reducing its reliance on imported technology. Tony Bonadero, CEO of Compal Electronics, expressed confidence that Kalyani Powertrain’s extensive experience in the Indian market would create significant synergies to drive the success of this venture.

The collaboration comes at a time when India’s demand for data centres and cloud computing solutions is growing rapidly. By focusing on domestic server production, the partnership is a key step in strengthening India’s technological self-sufficiency and expanding the country’s position in the global tech landscape.

This alliance not only marks a pivotal development in the manufacturing of critical IT infrastructure but also represents Kalyani Powertrain’s continued diversification into sectors beyond its automotive origins, including defence, aerospace, and now information technology. As the partnership takes shape, it positions India as an emerging player in global IT hardware manufacturing, poised to support the next wave of digital innovation.
