IndiGo has for a long time been the dominant player in the Indian aviation landscape. But if there was one chink in its formidable armour, it would be that their portfolio lacked something more premium and upscale.

That will soon change. IndiGo had already announced plans to target more well-heeled consumers with IndiGo Stretch, its Business Class offering. This move marks a significant shift for the airline, which has primarily focused on budget travel. And now, with the airline having taken delivery of an A321neo fitted with Stretch seats on October 30th, we take a look at what lies in stores for fliers.

Understanding IndiGoStretch

It goes without saying that IndiGo Stretch is designed to enhance passenger comfort significantly. This includes spacious seating and additional amenities that cater specifically to the needs of business travelers.

The new class promises a host of features that set it apart from standard economy seating. The airline has chosen the Recaro R5 seat, known for its ergonomic design and comfort. Here’s a closer look at what passengers can expect:

Seat Specifications

  • Pitch and Width: The seats offer a generous pitch of 38 inches and a width of 21.3 inches, allowing passengers ample space to relax during their journey.

  • No Convenience Fees: Passengers booking IndiGoStretch will not incur additional convenience fees, making the pricing straightforward.

  • Beverage Selection: Travelers can choose from a selection of soft beverages to enjoy during their journey.

The Launch Timeline

IndiGo’s first A321neo equipped with the IndiGoStretch product is set to take flight on November 14, 2024. The inaugural route will connect Delhi and Mumbai, two of the busiest cities in India.

Following the launch on the Delhi-Mumbai route, IndiGo aims to introduce the product on flights to Bengaluru and Chennai by March 2025. This phased approach allows the airline to gauge demand and adjust its offerings accordingly.

By early January 2025, all flights between Delhi and Mumbai are expected to feature IndiGoStretch, with an ambitious plan to expand to 12 routes and 268 daily flights within the next 14 months. This aggressive timeline highlights IndiGo’s determination to capture the business travel market effectively.
