In an unexpected turn of events, Dubai-based siblings Jainam and Jivika, who recently acquired the JioHotstar.com domain, have announced that they are willing to transfer it to Reliance at no cost. The siblings explained that their primary intent in purchasing the domain was to support a young developer’s education rather than profit from it or pursue any business connection with Jio or Hotstar.
The controversy behind the Domain
The story of JioHotstar.com began with a Delhi-based developer who registered the domain, hoping to leverage it for funding his studies abroad. He initially offered to transfer the domain to Reliance in exchange for a payment of one crore rupees, which he intended to use for his dream of attending Cambridge University. However, Reliance declined his proposal, leaving the domain open to other potential buyers. At this point, Jainam and Jivika stepped in and bought the domain from him, publicly expressing that their motivation was to assist the developer financially in his educational journey.
Dubai based siblings received many offers for the domain
Since taking ownership, Jainam and Jivika have received numerous offers to purchase the domain, with some being substantial and others appearing insincere. Despite this interest, the siblings have remained steadfast in their decision not to sell. On their website, they explained that the decision to purchase the domain stemmed solely from their desire to support the developer’s ambitions and that they never intended to engage in a commercial transaction with Jio or Hotstar.
“Our intention was always to support the developer and engage in ‘seva’ (service),” they wrote on their website, clarifying that their actions were motivated purely by a commitment to social good. They also acknowledged the unexpected wave of attention and speculation surrounding their purchase of JioHotstar.com but emphasized that their purpose remains focused on helping others rather than capitalizing on the domain.
In a recent statement, Jainam and Jivika said they would be more than willing to transfer ownership of JioHotstar.com to Reliance if the company expressed an interest. The siblings underscored that this decision was entirely voluntary, made without any external influence or pressure. “No one from Reliance or any legal party has approached us or attempted to pressure us in any way,” they affirmed.
Should Reliance choose not to accept their offer, Jainam and Jivika plan to continue using the domain for a different purpose. They intend to integrate it into their SevakArmy.com campaign, which is focused on mobilizing 100,000 volunteers to dedicate twenty hours annually to support various NGOs. Through this initiative, they hope to encourage people to contribute time and skills to social causes, using the domain to expand awareness and participation in their vision for community service.
