Congratulating Gupta, PM Modi lauded her rise from grassroots politics and expressed confidence in her leadership. “She has been active in campus politics, state organization, municipal administration, and now as an MLA and Chief Minister. I am certain she will work with full vigor for Delhi’s development,” he remarked.
Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was chosen as the Leader of the House in the BJP legislature party meeting. Her appointment comes after the BJP’s decisive victory, ending the 10-year rule of the AAP government.
Gupta’s First Steps as CM
According to BJP sources, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will hold her first cabinet meeting later today, followed by a visit to the Yamuna River. She reaffirmed her commitment to fulfilling the BJP’s poll promise of providing ₹2,500 monthly assistance to women, with the first installment set to be credited to eligible beneficiaries by March 8.
A Grand Oath-Taking Ceremony with Top Leaders
The oath ceremony was attended by several NDA leaders, Chief Ministers, and Union Ministers. Prominent attendees included Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Security was heightened across Delhi, with over 25,000 personnel and 15 paramilitary companies deployed to ensure smooth proceedings.

Senior BJP leader Parvesh Sahib Singh, now a Delhi Minister, reiterated his unwavering loyalty to the party, stating, “I am a disciplined worker of the BJP and will remain so till my last breath.” He emphasized the huge responsibility on the new government to fulfill Delhiites’ expectations.
Gupta’s Political Journey: From Student Leader to CM
Born in Julana, Haryana, Rekha Gupta is a B.Com graduate from Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College and holds a law degree from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. With a 32-year-long association with the RSS, she started her political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), serving as Delhi University Students’ Union Secretary (1995-96) and President (1996-97).
In 2002, she joined the BJP, holding various key roles, including National Secretary of the BJP Youth Wing, BJP Women’s Wing in-charge in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, and currently serves as the National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha.
