PM Modi Inaugurates India’s First Underwater Metro line

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first-ever underwater metro route in Kolkata, marking a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure advancement. The inauguration was part of the launch of multiple connectivity projects worth Rs 15,400 crore.

The newly launched metro services include routes from Kolkata Metro’s Kavi Subhash, Majerhat, and the Esplanade stations, as well as Kochi Metro, Agra Metro, Meerut-RRTS section, and Pune Metro.

The underwater metro service is a part of Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor, connecting Howrah and Salt Lake. Three of the six stations will be underground, and the metro is expected to travel through a 520-meter stretch under the Hooghly river in just 45 seconds.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi took the first ride on the underwater metro, accompanied by several school students. He also waved to passengers on another metro train as it passed by.

West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, and several metro staffers were among those who accompanied the Prime Minister on the metro ride.
