Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reaffirmed that people of all religions are safe in the state under his administration. Responding to a question about the safety of minorities, he emphasized that the security of Muslims is directly linked to the security of Hindus.
In an interview with ANI, CM Yogi was asked whether Muslims in Uttar Pradesh feel safe. He responded, “If Hindus are safe, Muslims are safe.” He further elaborated, stating, “A Muslim family is the safest among 100 Hindu families. They will have full freedom to practice their religious customs. But can 50 Hindus be safe among 100 Muslim families? No. Bangladesh is an example. Before this, Pakistan was an example. What happened in Afghanistan? If there is smoke or someone is being hit, we should be careful before we get hit. That is what needs to be taken care of.”
The Chief Minister, known for his strong stance on law and order, asserted that Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant decline in communal violence since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2017. He pointed out that prior to his tenure, riots were a common occurrence in the state, often affecting both Hindu and Muslim communities alike.
“Before 2017, if riots happened, Hindu shops were set on fire, and so were Muslim shops. If Hindu houses were burnt, Muslim houses were also destroyed. But since 2017, riots have stopped,” Yogi Adityanath stated, highlighting the improved law and order situation in the state.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about communal harmony in Uttar Pradesh. While critics have accused the government of bias, the Chief Minister reiterated that his administration ensures equal protection for all citizens.
As Uttar Pradesh prepares for upcoming elections, CM Yogi’s statements underline the BJP’s commitment to maintaining law and order while addressing concerns about religious coexistence in the state.
