Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, initially untraceable by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), surfaced in Ranchi, putting an end to speculation about his whereabouts.
Soren convened a meeting with MLAs from the ruling coalition after emerging from his official residence, with his wife, Kalpana, notably in attendance. Amid rumours of potential leadership change and speculations of ED officials arresting Hemant Soren, the situation has grabbed the limelight.
On Monday, an ED team visited Soren’s Delhi residence to question him regarding a money laundering probe linked to an alleged land scam. However, the chief minister remained undiscovered, leading to reports of him going “missing.” Subsequently, the Chief Minister’s office informed the ED of Soren’s availability for questioning on Wednesday at his residence in Ranchi.
In a recent development, an ED team seized two luxury cars from Hemant Soren’s Delhi residence, alongside recovering cash worth Rs. 36 lakh. Soren contends that the ED’s questioning, particularly at this juncture, carries political motives aimed at disrupting his government’s functioning.
In a letter addressed to the ED’s Ranchi office, Soren highlighted his preoccupation with preparations for the Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session from February 2nd to 29th, 2024.
He accused the ED’s insistence on recording a further statement before January 31, 2024, of reflecting malice, revealing a political agenda to disrupt the state government’s functioning and obstruct an elected representative’s duties.
