Haj Yatra Begins; First Flight Departs from Lucknow with 288 Pilgrims

The Haj Yatra 2025 officially commenced today, marking the beginning of the sacred journey for 1,22,518 Indian pilgrims. The first flights took off in the morning, with 288 pilgrims departing from Lucknow and 262 from Hyderabad, amid an atmosphere of devotion and anticipation.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju described the Haj as more than just a journey, calling it a “sacred duty and a deeply personal spiritual calling.” Extending his best wishes, Rijiju said, “Haj is a profound pilgrimage that holds immense spiritual significance. Under the inspiring leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, the Government of India remains fully committed to ensuring a seamless, safe, and spiritually enriching experience for every pilgrim.”

He further added, “This pilgrimage reflects the true strength of our nation’s diversity and unity. I pray for the well-being, safety, and spiritual upliftment of all pilgrims undertaking this sacred journey of faith.”

The Ministry of Minority Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, state Haj committees, and Indian consulates abroad, has made extensive preparations to facilitate the pilgrimage. Efforts have included the introduction of digital platforms for easy processing, enhanced medical facilities, and specialized orientation programs to equip pilgrims with essential knowledge before departure.

Government authorities emphasized that their aim is to make the pilgrimage as smooth and dignified as possible, with special attention given to elderly and first-time pilgrims. The initiatives undertaken this year reflect a broader commitment to modernizing and simplifying religious travel for Indian citizens.

Over the coming days, thousands more pilgrims will embark on their journey to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. The Government’s proactive measures and support structures have been widely welcomed by the community, underscoring India’s dedication to fostering religious freedom, diversity, and unity.

As Haj 2025 progresses, prayers, and best wishes from across the country accompany the pilgrims on this spiritually transformative journey.
