French Yoga Teacher Charlotte Chopin 101, Honoured with Padma Shri

Charlotte Chopin, a 101-year-old French yoga teacher, was recently awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour . The prestigious award was conferred upon her by President Droupadi Murmu during a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.

Dressed in a green saree, Ms. Chopin gracefully made her way to the dais to receive the honor, symbolizing her lifelong dedication to the practice of yoga. Hailing from Lere, a small town in Cher, France, she embarked on her yoga journey at the age of 50 and continues to inspire others with her commitment to the discipline.

Ms. Chopin’s recognition highlights her remarkable journey of defying age-limiting norms and spreading the benefits of yoga far and wide. Her contributions extend beyond her yoga classes, as she has also showcased her talents on the popular French TV show “France’s Got Incredible Talent.”

Last year, Ms. Chopin had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Paris. During their interaction, Prime Minister Modi commended her unwavering dedication to promoting yoga in France, emphasizing its profound impact on holistic well-being and happiness.

The meeting also underscored the growing global interest in yoga, particularly evident during the International Day of Yoga celebrations.
