Gadkari flags health impact of Delhi pollution, says transport causes 40% emissions!

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted the serious impact of air pollution in the national capital, stating that he often suffers from infections whenever he visits Delhi. Speaking on the issue, Gadkari acknowledged that nearly 40% of the city’s pollution is linked to the transport sector, underlining the urgent need for cleaner mobility solutions.

He stressed that vehicular emissions remain a major contributor to deteriorating air quality, especially in urban centres like Delhi, where high traffic density and fossil fuel dependence worsen pollution levels. Gadkari reiterated the government’s focus on promoting alternative fuels and sustainable transport to curb emissions and improve public health.

The minister pointed to initiatives such as electric mobility, ethanol blending, green hydrogen, and biofuels as key steps toward reducing pollution caused by conventional vehicles. He emphasized that transitioning to cleaner energy sources is not only critical for environmental protection but also for reducing health risks associated with prolonged exposure to polluted air.

Gadkari’s remarks come amid recurring concerns over Delhi’s air quality, particularly during winter months, when pollution levels often reach hazardous levels. He called for collective efforts from policymakers, industry stakeholders, and citizens to address the problem effectively. According to him, improving transport systems and adopting cleaner technologies are essential to ensuring healthier living conditions and a more sustainable future for urban India.
