Ashwin Ramaswami, 24, has made history as the first Indian-American from Generation Z to run for a State or federal legislature in the U.S. His candidacy reflects a new wave of young politicians emerging from the community.
A Democrat, Mr. Ramaswami aims to represent District 48 of Georgia in the State Senate. His platform focuses on ensuring equal opportunities for all, drawing from his background in software engineering, election security, and technology law and policy research.
If elected, Mr. Ramaswami would be the first Gen Z State Senator in Georgia and the only State legislator with both a computer science and a law degree. Additionally, he would break barriers as the first Indian American in the Georgia State legislature.
Raised in a household rooted in Indian culture, Mr. Ramaswami is deeply connected to his heritage. He has been involved in Indian cultural activities, including teaching Baal Vihara, and is passionate about issues such as education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.
