Transforming Medical Transport: ePlane and ICATT’s $1 Billion Air Ambulance Deal

India’s medical emergency landscape is set to undergo a revolutionary shift with The ePlane Company’s latest partnership with the International Critical-care Air Transfer Team (ICATT). The electric mobility startup has inked a deal worth over $1 billion to supply 788 air ambulances, marking the country’s largest eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) order to date. This agreement aims to enhance critical care accessibility across all districts in India, making rapid medical intervention a reality for millions.

The Need for Faster Medical Transport

India recorded approximately 463 road accident deaths per day in 2022, underscoring the urgent need for efficient emergency transport solutions. The national 108 emergency helpline receives between 3,000 and 4,000 calls per day per state, reflecting the overwhelming demand for rapid medical response. Traditional ground ambulances often face delays due to traffic congestion and infrastructural constraints, making air ambulances a game-changing alternative.

The e200x: A Game-Changer in Air Mobility

The ePlane Company’s e200x air ambulance is a compact, AI-powered eVTOL aircraft designed to take off and land in constrained spaces such as rooftops and small fields. With a wingspan of only 8 meters, the aircraft is significantly more flexible than traditional helicopters, making it ideal for urban and rural deployments alike. The e200x is expected to transport patients up to seven times faster than ground ambulances, drastically reducing critical response times.

ICATT’s Vision for India’s Largest Air Ambulance Network

ICATT, a leading air ambulance service provider specializing in critical care transport, accident response, and organ retrieval, will leverage its expertise to ensure the seamless integration of ePlane’s aircraft into its operations. By procuring one air ambulance per district, ICATT aims to establish the most extensive air ambulance network in India. Given evolving administrative boundaries, the total number of aircraft may be adjusted to ensure optimal coverage.

“This partnership is a transformative step in integrating technology and healthcare to ensure no one is left behind. Access to medical care should not be a privilege but a right,” said Shalini Nalwad, Founder of ICATT.

She further emphasized the impact of this initiative on organ transplants: “Around 95 percent of registered patient recipients die before receiving an organ, not due to a lack of donors, but because of logistical challenges. Our collaboration with ePlane will bridge this gap, redefining emergency healthcare access in India.”

The Road Ahead

The financial specifics of the agreement will be finalized closer to delivery dates, with the total contract value surpassing $1 billion. This initiative is set to drive widespread adoption of eVTOL technology in India, positioning the country as a global leader in electric aviation solutions.

Beyond emergency response, this development also signals a broader shift towards sustainable air mobility. The success of this deployment could pave the way for further applications of eVTOLs, including urban air taxis and cargo transport solutions.

With ePlane’s cutting-edge technology and ICATT’s operational expertise, this partnership is set to transform India’s medical transportation ecosystem, making life-saving interventions faster, more efficient, and more accessible than ever before.
