Sankalp Trailer Review: Nana Patekar Returns

Veteran actor Nana Patekar is all set to make his digital debut with the upcoming political drama “Sankalp,” and if the newly released trailer is anything to go by, audiences can expect a gripping battle of power, ideology, and ambition. The show is directed by Prakash Jha, a well-known filmmaker who is known for delivering serious political dramas. With Sankalp, it seems that he is following the same sharp storytelling tradition that has made up most of his films.

The trailer immediately pulls viewers into a world where politics is much more than just elections. It is about the power of persuasion, loyalty, and carefully thought-out moves made behind closed doors. The focal point of the series is Ma’at Saab, portrayed by Nana Patekar, a powerful and enigmatic mentor figure who seems to wield immense influence in the political ecosystem. He is portrayed in the brief portions of the trailer as a very skilled strategist (as it relates to the power of persuasion) who understands how to manipulate the power structure of the political system, perhaps better than anyone else in that room.

Patekar’s screen presence is as powerful as ever, with many dimensions to his portrayal in the short cuts shown in the trailer. His character seems calm and controlled, like a chess player strategically planning his next move while chaos ensues around him. The dialogues are sharp, and his expressions say more than the words spoken. Audiences are reminded why Nana Patekar has been considered one of Indian cinema’s most compelling actors for many years.

Based on what we see in the trailer, a mentor versus disciple conflict will be the emotional and political focus of the movie. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub portrays an upright police officer who must choose between being loyal to his mentor and performing the moral obligations of his job. In addition, as the story unfolds, ambition, power, and ideology will come into conflict in unpredictable ways.

Finally, another reason why the trailer is so intriguing is that it combines political drama with personal conflict. From what appears in the trailer, the story seems to address the fine line between mentoring and manipulation. At what point does a mentor become a manipulator? What cost does being in power have? These questions seem to drive the tension throughout the trailer.

The series also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Neeraj Kabi, Kubrra Sait, and Kranti Prakash Jha in pivotal roles. The characters in Sankalp portray different types of political ambitions and add further layers to the already complex power relations in the story.

Speaking about the technicality of the show, it seems that the major work has been done on the background score to make the scenes tense and more intriguing. The usage of muted colours adds an extra layer of realistic feel to the show. However, it’s the dialogues that become the cherry on the cake for the political drama.

Overall, the trailer of Sankalp appears to be a compelling political thriller, where concepts of loyalty, power, and morality will intersect. If the series follows through with all that has been shown in the trailer, then it is reasonable to expect that it will become one of the most talked-about political drama series on OTT in 2026.

What makes Sankalp more exciting is that it is Nana Patekar’s debut on OTT. Produced by Jyoti Deshpande under Jio Studios and Dishaa Jhaa of PJP films Productions, Sankalp is set to premiere on March 11 on Amazon MX Player.
