Amid ‘Gutter Generation’ backlash, Kangana Ranaut defends controversial remarks: ‘My comments were about their behaviour’
Kangana Ranaut, an actress and BJP legislator, has responded to the controversy that arose after her remarks regarding “Gutter Generation.” As she faced backlash for her remarks regarding the Gen Z demonstrators, Ranauat shared a video on Instagram justifying her point.
In the video, Kangana asked whether anyone would normalise the actions in question if their child behaved the same way, adding, “Excuse me. Will you teach your daughter to behave like this?” She clarified that she did not intend to insult the whole generation but only spoke against their behaviour.
Kangana made a reel and went on to say, “Hum log nahi chahte hai ki hamare ghar ke bachcho ko koi ashleel sabdo se ye sexualise kar de. Ghar ke buzurgo ke saamne sharmindagi mehsoos ho. Hum iss tarah ka behaviour accept nahi karte hain aur usko normalise nahi hone denge (We do not want our kids to use these vulgar words and get sexualised. It will bring shame. We don’t accept this kind of behaviour and won’t normalise it).”
She added, “Excuse me? Kya aap apne beti ko aisa sikhayenge? Discipline mein rehna koi choice nahi hai! Agar aapko samaj mein rehna hai toh samvidhaan ke hisaab se chalna padega. Aapki aazadi waha khatam hoti hain jaha mera naak aur kaan shuru hote hain (Will you teach this to your daughters? It is not a choice to stay disciplined. If you want to stay in society, then you have to follow the constitution. Your freedom stops at my nose and ears).”
The controversy started when Kangana called many protesting Gen Z people “Gutter Generation” in her comments about CJP-protected student protests. Her use of the negative term not only condemned some of the language and behavior of various young protesters, but that quickly gained popularity and led to outrage on social media with many accusing her of generalising all young individuals.
As the controversy grew more and more intense, Kangana decided to stick with her views and stated that actions have a reaction and questioned the value of the various posts provided by social media during the protests. Yet, it seems her attempt to clarify her comments was only meant to explain the behavior generally spoken about ONLY within certain behavior of young protesters.
The comments made by the actress-politician have provoked hot discussions on the internet with some of her supporters claiming that there is nothing wrong with the way she spoke about the young activists, while the critics claim that she has completely misrepresented them.
