Actress Elnaaz Norouzi, known for her role in Sacred Games, has become a victim of cybercrime after an unidentified individual allegedly threatened to leak her private photos. Taking swift legal action, Norouzi reported the matter to the Cybercrime Cell, which traced the origin of the email to a Swiss server.
A Disturbing Cyber Attack
The incident began in January when Norouzi received an anonymous email. Speaking to ETimes, she revealed, “On January 18, I received an email with my password in the subject line. This caught my attention, so I opened it. Inside, I found my private pictures along with a threatening message that read, ‘I have your pictures. If you don’t want them to be posted online, reply as soon as possible. Otherwise, the next email will contain a link with the pictures online.’”
Cybercrime Investigation and Challenges
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Norouzi immediately approached the Cybercrime Cell. Investigators acted quickly and traced the email’s origin to a Swiss server known for concealing user details. “The Cybercrime team responded within two days and discovered that the sender was using a highly secure server designed to evade detection,” she explained. “Though they managed to terminate the account, there’s a chance the perpetrator might contact me again from a new email address.”
During the investigation, authorities questioned Norouzi about any potential security breaches. She recalled filling out an online form via an unfamiliar link, which may have been the source of the hack. Following this, the Cybercrime team visited her residence, guided her through data backup, and helped her format her devices for security purposes. She has since enhanced her online safety measures by frequently updating her passwords. Authorities have also advised her to remain vigilant and report any suspicious messages.
Emotional Toll and Fear of Privacy Breach
The experience has left Norouzi deeply distressed. “I am now scared to open my emails or social media accounts,” she admitted. “I constantly worry that my private photos might have already been leaked online. This situation has caused immense anxiety—I struggle to sleep and often wake up feeling panicked.” She also revealed that she has sought therapy to cope with the stress. “I feel like my privacy has been completely violated. It’s terrifying to think that someone is watching my every move. Living in this constant fear is overwhelming.”
A Rising Star Targeted by Cybercrime
Elnaaz Norouzi gained fame for her portrayal of Zoya Mirza in the acclaimed Netflix series Sacred Games. She has also made her Hollywood debut alongside Gerard Butler in Kandahar, directed by Ric Roman Waugh.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing dangers of cyber threats, emphasizing the importance of online security and vigilance. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, ensuring that Norouzi receives protection against further cyber harassment.
