Deepinder Goyal, the Chief Executive Officer of Zomato, unveiled a groundbreaking initiative with the launch of a “large fleet order” service, a pioneering move in the Indian market. This new fleet is dedicated to catering to group or party events accommodating up to 50 people and will exclusively consist of electric vehicles.
Goyal announced the milestone on X, stating, “Today, we are thrilled to introduce India’s inaugural large order fleet, specifically designed to effortlessly handle all your large group, party, or event orders. This fleet comprises entirely of electric vehicles, tailored to serve gatherings of up to 50 people.”
Highlighting the motivation behind this initiative, Goyal explained that previously, large orders were managed by multiple delivery partners, resulting in a suboptimal customer experience. He expressed confidence that the new fleet would address most of the challenges faced by customers when placing large orders on Zomato.
However, Goyal acknowledged that the fleet is still a “work in progress,” with ongoing enhancements such as cooling compartments and hot boxes with temperature control in the pipeline to ensure optimal food delivery conditions.
Emphasizing Zomato’s commitment to community service, Goyal affirmed, “We don’t build products and services to make money. We make money to build better products and services, so we can serve our communities better. This is one such endeavor.”
In March, Zomato had introduced the “Pure Veg Mode” service catering to customers with a 100% vegetarian dietary preference. Initially, plans included a distinctive green uniform and delivery box for the fleet, but following online backlash, Zomato reverted to its trademark red attire.
