Reliance Unveils Rs 65,000 Crore Bio-Gas Project in Andhra Pradesh, Promising 2.5 Lakh Jobs

Hyderabad:Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), India’s largest private-sector conglomerate, has launched an ambitious Rs 65,000 crore Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) project in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy. The project aims to establish 500 CBG plants across the state, with the first plant’s foundation stone laid in Kanigiri, Prakasam district, by state IT & Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh.

The initiative is expected to produce 40 lakh tonnes of clean bio-gas annually, along with 1.1 million metric tonnes of organic fertilizer. It will also generate around 2.5 lakh jobs, providing a major boost to rural employment. The project will utilize 5 lakh acres of barren and waste land in regions like Prakasam, Anantapur, Chittoor, and Kadapa, transforming underutilized areas into productive hubs.

Strategic Investment with Economic Ripple Effects
RIL has dedicated Rs 139 crore to kickstart the first phase, leveraging cutting-edge technology and Napier grass cultivation to optimize bio-gas production. The overall investment of Rs 65,000 crore underscores India’s commitment to clean energy and a circular economy.

According to RIL’s exchange filing, the project will create substantial rural livelihoods through lease revenues for farmers and fixed prices for grass cultivation, further integrating agricultural communities into the clean energy ecosystem.

Driving India’s Green Energy Revolution
This mega project aligns with RIL’s broader sustainability goals and India’s net-zero emission targets. By reducing fossil fuel dependence, cutting carbon emissions, and enhancing agricultural waste management, the CBG project positions RIL at the forefront of India’s green energy transformation.

With a revenue of Rs 10,00,122 crore, a cash profit of Rs 1,41,969 crore, and a net profit of Rs 79,020 crore (FY24), RIL continues to strengthen its leadership in energy innovation while contributing to economic growth and environmental sustainability.
