NSE to Build New Headquarters in BKC

In a significant step toward reinforcing Mumbai’s status as India’s financial capital, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has allotted a premium plot in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) for its new administrative headquarters. The plot, valued at ₹757.90 crore, will accommodate NSE’s expanding operations and add to BKC’s prestige as a top financial hub.

The allotment of Plot No. C-82 in BKC’s G-Block was formally approved during the 159th meeting of the MMRDA Authority, following NSE’s request submitted on October 11, 2024. The exchange plans to develop a modern commercial facility with a built-up area of 4 to 5 lakh square feet.

This marks NSE’s second major land allotment in BKC, following the 1993 allocation of Plot C-1, where its current headquarters—Exchange Plaza—is located. At that time, MMRDA had eased certain land disposal regulations to accommodate the then-nascent financial institution.

A government notification issued on July 19, 2024, has also permitted NSE to acquire additional built-up area beyond the standard FSI, upon payment of the applicable premium to MMRDA.

The recent allotment was finalized after the recommendation of the Metropolitan Commissioner and was approved by Shri Eknath Shinde, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Urban Development Minister, and Chairman of MMRDA. An official offer letter was sent to NSE on March 7, 2025.

Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said:
“This decision reflects Maharashtra’s commitment to fostering financial growth and infrastructure development. By enabling NSE to expand in BKC, we are reinforcing Mumbai’s position as the financial capital of India.”

Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM & MMRDA Chairman, remarked:
“The allotment is a strategic step to boost commercial growth and solidify BKC’s status as a key financial district. It aligns with our long-term vision for Mumbai.”

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, added:
“The new facility will support NSE’s growth and strengthen BKC’s infrastructure as a premier business hub.”

The new headquarters will offer state-of-the-art infrastructure to accommodate NSE’s growing workforce and enhance its operational efficiency. This development deepens NSE’s commitment to Mumbai while advancing the state’s goal of transforming BKC into a global financial powerhouse.
