In a remarkable display of India’s rising prominence across the globe, Indian billionaire and car enthusiast Yohan Poonawalla has recently purchased the 2016 Range Rover SDV8 Autobiography LWB previously owned by the late Queen Elizabeth II. This acquisition highlights not only Poonawalla’s passion for rare and vintage automobiles but also India’s growing influence on the global stage.
Poonawalla, known for his collection of prestigious vehicles, was particularly drawn to the Queen’s Range Rover due to its unique features, including its original royal registration number, OU16 XVH, and special modifications tailored for the Queen’s use. These modifications, such as covert lighting, adapted fixed steps, police emergency lighting, and additional grab handles, enhance the vehicle’s functionality and historical value.
Speaking about his decision to purchase the car, Poonawalla mentioned, “Special cars like these do not come along very often,” highlighting the rarity and significance of this acquisition. He also expressed his intention to retain all the modifications made to the car, further emphasizing its historical importance and uniqueness.
The Queen’s Range Rover, which has approximately 18,000 miles on the clock, was initially listed for auction with a reserve price exceeding £224,850. However, Poonawalla opted for a private purchase, choosing not to disclose the final price.
