Namita Thapar Hits Back at Sabeer Bhatia's 'Gyaan' Jibe on Indian Engineers

Entrepreneur and Shark Tank India judge Namita Thapar has fired back at Hotmail co-founder Sabeer Bhatia’s controversial remark about Indian engineers. In a recent podcast interview, Bhatia criticized Indian engineers, claiming, “99% of Indians who graduate as engineers join management and start giving Gyaan to everybody.”

Thapar, who lived in the US for eight years, took to Twitter to express her disagreement. She shared her perspective, writing, “I met many Indians living in the US who loved bashing India.” Thapar also raised a larger issue, urging the Indian government to address the ongoing brain drain, calling it “a real concern” that deserves introspection.

She further took a subtle jab at Bhatia’s comments, emphasizing the importance of staying in India to make a difference. “It’s easy to move to another country and give Gyaan, but the real impact and challenge lies in staying in your own country and facilitating change!” she tweeted.

Bhatia, during the podcast, argued that many Indian engineers move away from core technical roles, opting instead for managerial or advisory positions. He also criticized India for not specializing in any particular field, suggesting it’s becoming a “jack of all trades” without a clear focus.

Thapar’s response not only defended the capabilities of Indian engineers but also highlighted the larger issue of brain drain, a challenge the country faces as talented individuals seek opportunities abroad. By calling out Bhatia’s comments, Thapar reinforced the need for both introspection and action, urging professionals to contribute meaningfully to their home country.
