Maharashtra to Upgrade Five Regional Mental Hospitals; ₹30.81 Lakh Approved for Essential Supplies

Mumbai, August 3: The Maharashtra Government’s Public Health Department has approved an expenditure of ₹30.81 lakh to strengthen infrastructure and patient care at five key mental healthcare institutions across the state. The funds will support the procurement of essential medicines, medical equipment, and other necessary supplies for the Regional Mental Hospitals in Pune, Thane, Nagpur, and Ratnagiri, as well as the Geriatric Health and Mental Illness Centre in Ambajogai, Beed district.

The sanctioned amount will be used to purchase medicines, laboratory materials, chemicals, linen, undergarments for patients, minor machinery, and treatment-related equipment. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of mental healthcare services and improve patient welfare across these institutions.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the government has directed that all procurement must strictly follow the state’s Essential Medicines List. Technical departments have been instructed to procure only modern, high-quality equipment, while ensuring that technical specifications are not designed to favour any particular company. This move is expected to strengthen mental healthcare infrastructure and promote better treatment standards in Maharashtra.
