Farm Loan Waiver Amount to be Directly Credited to Bank Accounts Soon

Mumbai, August 3: The Maharashtra State Government has announced a major farm loan waiver, claiming it to be the largest in the state’s history. While the waiver was originally scheduled for completion by June 30, it experienced delays due to technical adjustments and revisions in eligibility criteria. Following the recent release of the list of eligible farmers, millions across the state have received significant positive news.

According to the latest updates, the waived amounts will be directly credited to the bank accounts of beneficiary farmers starting tomorrow, August 4. However, the disbursement will strictly apply to farmers who have completed their Electronic Know Your Customer (E-KYC) verification. Out of the 1,696,000 farmers identified in the initial list of eligible beneficiaries, those with completed E-KYC processes will receive the funds directly into their linked accounts.

Initial Disbursement of 7,000 Crore Scheduled

The state government has allocated a total budget of 20,000 crore for this scheme. Out of this total allocation, approximately 7,000 crore will be disbursed in the first phase on August 4. The distribution drive will be officially launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Although the government had initially pledged to fulfill the waiver prior to June 30, administrative processing and rule adjustments led to the extended timeline.

Relaxation of Rules and Expanded Coverage

The initial criteria set by the government faced criticism from opposition parties and local groups, who argued that certain conditions were overly restrictive. Protests in several regions prompted the government to review and revise the guidelines. By relaxing key regulations, the scope of the loan waiver was broadened, leading to the final publication of the updated beneficiary list and the commencement of direct fund transfers.
