A&M Appoints Bhalindra Singh as Managing Director in India

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has strengthened its India leadership team with the appointment of Bhalindra Singh as Managing Director, bringing more than 17 years of experience across management consulting and technology to the global professional services firm.

Singh joins A&M after more than 13 years at McKinsey & Company, where he most recently served as Associate Partner in the Advanced Industries practice. His experience spans automotive, manufacturing, and industrial sectors, including two-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, tractors, material handling and construction equipment, cement, consumer electricals, and other industrial businesses.

The appointment comes at a time when manufacturers are facing pressure on multiple fronts, from cost structures and supply-chain resilience to technology shifts and changing customer expectations. For companies operating in capital-intensive and increasingly competitive industries, the focus is moving towards transformation programmes that can deliver measurable improvements in productivity and profitability.

Singh’s experience is particularly aligned with this agenda. During his time at McKinsey, he led a two-year cost excellence programme for an Indian two-wheeler manufacturer that delivered more than a 10% reduction in bill of materials costs. His work has also covered areas including product design, procurement, operating models, and broader business transformation.

For A&M, the appointment adds depth to its Business Transformation Services capabilities, particularly across advanced industries. Himanshu Bajaj, Managing Director and Head of A&M India and GCC, said Singh’s automotive experience and expertise in cost transformation would strengthen the firm’s ability to help clients respond to changes in technology, supply chains, and cost structures.

Sameer Amte, Managing Director, Business Transformation Services, A&M India, highlighted Singh’s experience across product design, procurement, and operating models as an addition to the firm’s ability to deliver large-scale cost transformation programmes.

Singh’s own comments point to a broader shift in how industrial companies are approaching cost management. According to him, automotive businesses are increasingly looking for structural cost advantages rather than relying only on incremental cost reduction. At the same time, companies need to balance efficiency initiatives with continued investment in growth and innovation.

That balance is becoming increasingly relevant as Indian manufacturers look to compete in a more complex global environment. Cost competitiveness is increasingly tied to decisions around product engineering, sourcing, manufacturing processes, technology adoption, and supply-chain design rather than being treated as a standalone procurement exercise.

The appointment also fits into A&M’s broader expansion of its India platform. The firm has been adding senior talent across business transformation, energy and resources, corporate finance, turnaround and restructuring, and other specialist practices. In 2026, for instance, A&M appointed Ankit Agarwal as Managing Director within Business Transformation Services to expand its energy and resources transformation capabilities, while also adding other senior leaders to its India platform.

Founded in 1983, A&M provides advisory, business performance improvement, and turnaround management services to corporates, boards, private equity firms, law firms, and government agencies. Its India operations have been expanding as businesses seek greater operational resilience, efficiency, and value creation.

Singh’s appointment therefore adds another senior industry and consulting voice to A&M’s growing India bench, with a mandate closely aligned with one of the country’s central business priorities: helping industrial companies improve competitiveness while continuing to invest for the next phase of growth.
