Pirated copies of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey go viral after $600-crore+ box office milestone

Christopher Nolan’s latest movie, The Odyssey, has also fallen prey to piracy, although it has already managed to have a successful run in the box office. The stunning film opened to a global box office of more than $600 million. It was leaked online last weekend, prompting swift action from Universal Pictures.

According to reports, the high-quality pirated versions of the movie appeared on Facebook and other social media sites. The leak received millions of views before it was taken down.

In reaction to the event, Universal Pictures said that it has implemented its anti-piracy measures. The studio informed The Hollywood Reporter that it has “activated our takedown protocols.”

“We became aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights,” the statement read.

The piracy incident comes at a time when The Odyssey rules at the worldwide box office. The latest epic adaptation of the classic title by Christopher Nolan has surpassed $600 million globally, demonstrating impressive success on the theatres’ screens.

Experts in the industry have long warned that top-grossing blockbusters are often among the first victims of piracy. Cyber security specialists recommend enthusiasts not to seek pirated films because many of the links offer viruses or ways to unfairly take money from users.

Despite the leak, it looks like the film will keep doing well at the box office, with Universal concentrated on stopping the spread of pirated versions, and at the same time benefiting from successful showings at theatres.
