Diljit Dosanjh Reacts to Question on CJP Protest

Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh chose to steer clear of political commentary when he was questioned about the ongoing CJP (Cockroach Janta Party) protest during a recent media interaction. He remains convinced that he is an artist, with his sole role being that of entertainer.

When asked by reporters for his opinion on the protests, he stated, “Main ek artist hoon, politician nahi hoon”. He went on to express that he prefers to avoid engaging in political discussion and indicates that his responsibility as an entertainer is to entertain, and not to comment on popular movements or political events.

He stated that he stands firmly by this decision following additional questioning from reporters regarding the current protests, indicating that he does not want to take part in the debate. His reply has subsequently become a trending topic on social media and many have commented on how he did not take sides, while others feel that public figures should voice their opinions about any concerns regarding the nation.

Headlines about CJP protests regarding greater accountability for what they perceive to be irregularities in competitive exams/recruitment processes continue to make news daily due in large part to many public figures and thousands of students supporting this effort as a result of the movement of CJP leader and social media activist Abhijeet Dipke conducting widespread demonstrations at Jantar Mantar (Delhi).

Among the celebrities asked recently to provide an opinion regarding the CJP movement is Diljit, who has made it very clear that he would prefer to let his “work speak for itself.” His succinct answer, which emphasised that he is “an artist, not a politician,” has become one of the most discussed moments between these two entertainers via social media and has led many people to discuss whether entertainers should generally offer their perspectives regarding politics/social issues.

Meanwhile, as a singer and actor who is widely known in the Punjabi community, Diljit has amassed millions of global fans worldwide. He has also helped to drive interest in Punjabi entertainment internationally through his successful concert tours and performances in both Hindi and Punjabi-language films.
