Akshay Kumar Addresses Fee Rumours, Retirement Talk

When Welcome To The Jungle’s trailer launch took place, it was expected that the evening would be full of celebrations in conjunction with the Bollywood film franchise, but due to Akshay Kumar’s comments on retiring from the industry, the trailer launch happened to be a more personal event.

Akshay Kumar has been one of the hardest working actors in Bollywood, and during his speech at the event, he made it clear that he is not slowing down anytime soon regarding retiring from acting. The actor stated that the thought of retiring from acting does cross his mind from time to time during the early morning hours; however, as soon as he thinks of the hundreds of people that are waiting on set for him to arrive, he forgets about retiring and is excited to continue to work to help fulfill their needs and dreams of working on films. He feels working helps to give people purpose, and believes that people should work as long as possible.

On this occasion, Akshay Kumar also took the opportunity to answer the recent gossip surrounding the fee he was charging for Welcome To The Jungle, which reportedly was Re. 1.7 crore. According to industry buzz over the past week, Akshay had greatly decreased his fee and negotiated a profit-sharing structure with the film. Multiple reports also noted that he would be compensated on the back end as opposed to an upfront payment.

Of course, Akshay used his wit and humour to take down the tabloid speculations, indicating that the amounts circulated were wrong, but most importantly that money was never the reason for joining this project. He went on to talk about Neeraj Vora (the writer), who has written some of the greatest comedy classics, and credited him for teaching Akshay about comic timing and performance during his career.

While speaking about the late veteran actor Pankaj Dheer (who appeared in Akshay’s first film) and how this project would be his last film appearance, Akshay shared a very emotional tribute to Dheer. The entire room applauded Akshay’s tribute to the legendary actor.

Directed by Ahmed Khan, Welcome To The Jungle boasts a massive ensemble featuring Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Disha Patani, Tusshar Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta and Jacqueline Fernandez among many others. With the trailer already generating buzz, the film is gearing up for a theatrical release on June 26.
