Preity Zinta reveals why her US-born twins identify as ‘100% Indian’

Actress Preity Zinta who is all set to make her big Bollywood comeback with Batwara 1947 has recently said that motherhood has changed her priorities. She stated that although her babies are growing up in the USA, they are “100% Indian.” She is thankful to her husband, Gene Goodenough, for his support as she is getting back to work after her break for her family.

During a recent interview, Preity explained how to maintain a work-life balance. She stated that both she and Gene are careful to keep Jai and Gia aware of their Indian heritage.

Talking about bringing up her children in a bicultural household, she shares, “My kids are half-Indian and half-American. But culturally, they’re one hundred percent Indian. Most values come from India. It’s just the way it is. Mothers are more involved, especially jab bachche chhote hote hai. But I would like my kids to imbibe the best values from both countries. That’s my hope.”

“Beyond that, there’s no hard and fast rule and you can’t control anything. All we can do is try and do our best as a parent. Before I had kids, I had a million opinions on life post motherhood. But now, I’ve realised that there are limitations in terms of what you can do,” adds Preity.

Preity was also appreciative of Gene for facilitating her comeback to acting. She admitted that her husband took charge of the household responsibilities while enabling her to focus on her work.

The actress revealed that taking time off to become a mom was pleasurable for her. During her hiatus, she took care of her children and built her family. Although she is now fully prepared to come back to acting, she still intends to take care of her family.

“I would be lying if I say I missed the camera. I was enjoying having a family, bringing up my kids and focusing on my personal life. However big my career milestones may be, my greatest milestone was to have children and a family. And that’s why I could identify so much with this film (Batwara 1947). Even though it’s 2026, my number priority is still my family,” she says.

Preity Zinta is preparing for her return to Bollywood with the movie Batwara 1947 opposite Sunny Deol, her first film after a long hiatus. Although audiences are thrilled to see the Salaam Namastey actress back, she insists that her most significant accomplishment to date is being a mother.
