Tom Holland may be one of Hollywood’s leading actors, but even Spider-Man faces the possibility of being snubbed. Recently, the actor revealed the story of his comedy of errors related to getting in touch with footballer Erling Haaland.
It all started with Holland managing to spot Haaland at the Grand Prix in Monaco and attempting to ask the soccer star out for dinner. Expecting a reply from him, Holland instead found himself with the unsatisfying reality of waiting unanswered.
Speaking of the experience, Holland laughed, saying it was a good reminder that fame does not always guarantee a VIP response. Instead of facing an embarrassing moment of being ignored by one of the world’s best footballers, Holland found the situation amusing.
Explaining what happened, Tom said, “You know, you’re like, ‘I’ll text him, I’ll take him to dinner’. Not even a response.” He added, “Not an excuse, not ‘I’m busy tonight. I’m playing football. Nada.”
Recalling spotting Haaland during the Monaco Grand Prix and deciding to take a chance. He said, “I was at Monaco. I was watching Lewis race, and I saw him. He was like a hospitality suite across from me, and I just thought I’d shoot my shot. I send him a text. I never imagined I’d talk about it on live television, but here we are.”
What made matters even more comical was Haaland’s realization that he had simply underestimated the message from Holland. Being a guy who does not keep up with movies and celebrities, the sportsman thought he was receiving a message from a stranger.
At last, Haaland understood that it was actually the hero behind one of the world’s most famous heroes who sent him the text that he failed to read. The soccer star confessed that he found the situation amusing and added that he should call Holland back.
Although Haaland has been making headlines on the pitch, especially due to his successful FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with Norway, this incident off the pitch has allowed the fans to see his more human side.
As for Holland, who is busy working on a number of big projects, including Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey and the forthcoming Spider-Man movie, the incident makes him smile.
