OpenAI to Launch Advanced AI Model 'Strawberry' This Fall

OpenAI is preparing to release a groundbreaking artificial intelligence model named “Strawberry” in the coming weeks, which will be part of its ChatGPT service. This innovation, led by Sam Altman’s OpenAI, is drawing significant attention, further fueling investment in the AI sector as companies seek to leverage the technology for a competitive edge.

The Microsoft-backed company has rapidly expanded its influence, recently reporting over 1 million paying users across its business products. This success has been driven by the widespread adoption of its chatbot, which is powered by advanced large language models. However, Strawberry sets itself apart from traditional conversational AIs by focusing on reasoning enabling it to “think” before offering responses, rather than providing instant answers, according to an Information report.

In July, Reuters reported that OpenAI had been working on a novel AI approach under the project code name “Strawberry.” While Strawberry will be integrated into ChatGPT, it is expected to operate as a standalone product as well. Details about its specific offerings are still unclear, though it has been confirmed that the initial version will focus solely on text-based input and output, meaning it won’t yet be multimodal like some other AI models.

Expected to launch in the fall, Strawberry represents OpenAI’s next-generation AI model. It aims to advance reasoning capabilities, allowing AI to process and understand more complex information. This marks a significant step in OpenAI’s strategy to push the boundaries of what its technology can accomplish.

OpenAI’s rapid business expansion is also worth noting. Just a year after releasing its three business products ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Team, and ChatGPT Edu, the company has seen its paying user base grow from 600,000 in April to over 1 million. As OpenAI prepares for the launch of Strawberry, the company is also rumored to be seeking billions of dollars in a new funding round, which could push its valuation beyond $100 billion.

Unlike traditional conversational AIs, Strawberry will “think” before responding, enhancing its ability to process complex information. Though integrated with ChatGPT, it will also function as a standalone product. Initially, it will only handle text, not multimodal input. As OpenAI prepares for Strawberry’s launch, the company has surpassed 1 million paying business users and is reportedly raising billions, positioning itself as a leader in the AI space with a valuation exceeding $100 billion.
