Frozen in Time: Berlin Startup Offers Cryogenic Preservation for Second Chance at Life

Imagine being frozen in time, only to be revived in a distant future where advanced technology can bring you back to life. This sci-fi dream is becoming a reality thanks to Tomorrow Bio, a Berlin-based startup offering cryogenic preservation for those daring enough to put their faith—and their bodies—on ice.

For a hefty sum of $222,603, plus a $55 monthly membership fee, Tomorrow Bio will cryogenically freeze your entire body in the hope that future medical breakthroughs will one day reanimate you. If you’re not ready to commit your whole body, you can opt to freeze just your brain for $83,473.

Co-founder Fernando Azevedo Pinheiro, who is 40, believes that during his lifetime, we might see the successful cryopreservation and revival of complex organisms. “For many, the fear of dying is a powerful motivator. Cryopreservation offers hope and a sense of security, providing a potential path to extend their lives,” Pinheiro said.

So far, the company has frozen six people and five pets, with 650 more eager clients, averaging 36 years old, waiting in line. “None of them are expecting to die anytime soon,” Pinheiro told the Daily Mail.

Tomorrow Bio stands out with its “field cryoprotection” service, which starts the freezing process immediately after legal death is declared. Using retrofitted ambulances that double as mobile surgery rooms, the company begins replacing the body’s fluids with medical-grade antifreeze to prevent cold damage. Over a week, the body is gradually cooled to minus 320 degrees Fahrenheit and then stored in a steel container filled with liquid nitrogen for long-term preservation.

The startup claims to be the only one worldwide offering this immediate, on-the-spot preservation service.

Should a client be successfully revived in the future, any unused funds from their cryopreservation investment are returned. Tomorrow Bio already has storage facilities across Europe, including Berlin and Amsterdam, with plans to expand to New York City soon.

But it’s not just about escaping death. According to Pinheiro, many customers are intrigued by what the future might hold, including the possibilities of space travel and other yet-to-be-imagined experiences. For these forward-thinkers, freezing today offers the promise of tomorrow’s adventures.
