UP Government cracks down on non-compliant employees; 13 Lakh face salary freeze over asset declaration

In a significant move to enforce transparency, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced that over 13 lakhs of its employees will face a salary freeze for August if they fail to submit their property details via the Manav Sampada portal by the end of the month. This ultimatum is part of a broader effort by the Yogi Adityanath administration to ensure that all government employees declare their movable and immovable assets.

Despite multiple deadline extensions, compliance remains alarmingly low, with only 26% of the state’s 17.88 lakh employees having submitted their asset declarations. The initial deadline, set for December 31, 2023, has now been pushed to August 31, 2024, with a clear warning: no asset declaration, no salary.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh has reiterated that strict action will be taken against those who fail to meet the new deadline. In addition to missing out on their August salary, non-compliant employees may also face delays in promotions and other career advancements.

The government notice clearly states that any employee who does not comply by August 31 will be marked as absent and will not receive their salary for August 2024 and beyond until they fulfil the requirement. The move is part of the state’s broader initiative to curb corruption and enhance accountability among its workforces.

“This strict measure reflects our commitment to transparency under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said UP government minister Danish Azad Ansari. “We are serious about rooting out corruption and ensuring that all government employees adhere to the highest standards of integrity.”
