DRDO successfully test-fires portable anti-tank missile in Jaisalmer 

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-fired the indigenously developed Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MP-ATGM) at a field firing range today in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. This milestone, reported by ANI citing DRDO officials, marks a significant step forward in India’s defense capabilities. 

The MP-ATGM is a state-of-the-art, shoulder-launched missile system designed to neutralize enemy tanks and armored vehicles. What sets this advanced missile apart is its versatility; it boasts day and night operational capabilities, a top-attack functionality, and a dual-mode seeker that enhances its effectiveness in tank warfare. 

Prior to this successful test, the missile system underwent rigorous trials. On April 14, the DRDO conducted a series of tests that included the missile, its launcher, a target acquisition system, and a fire control unit. Notably, on April 13, the Warhead Flight Trials were carried out at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. The missile’s performance, along with the warhead’s effectiveness, was found to be exemplary, showcasing the system’s reliability and precision. 

The MP-ATGM is designed to operate seamlessly in various combat scenarios, equipped with both day and night capabilities, and a sophisticated top-attack mechanism. The integration of a dual-mode seeker adds a significant edge, enabling it to effectively engage and destroy enemy tanks. 

In a related development, the Indian Air Force’s fighter jets, including the LCA Tejas, Mirage 2000, and Rafale, are currently participating in the Tarang Shakti exercise at Sulur, Tamil Nadu. This exercise aims to bolster strategic relationships with international allies. During this event, the DRDO also showcased several other indigenous weapon systems, further emphasizing India’s growing prowess in defense technology.
