Ola Electric to launch all-new E-motorcycles on August 15

Ola Electric is gearing up to revolutionize the electric two-wheeler market with the launch of all-new electric motorcycles to be unveiled on August 15. The company has revealed plans for three new electric motorcycles, which are currently undergoing rigorous testing. 

During a recent announcement about their upcoming Ola IPO, Ola Electric shared updates on the development and testing phases of their e-motorcycle. While Ola had previously unveiled four motorcycle concepts, the first model to hit the market will not follow those initial designs. Instead, Ola is focusing on creating a premium electric bike expected to cost over ₹2 lakh, slated for release in the next couple of years. 

For now, Ola’s primary focus will be on more affordable, commuter-friendly motorcycles priced between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.50 lakh. Bhavish Aggarwal, founder of Ola Electric, emphasized that the shift to electric motorcycles is a strategic move, given that motorcycles make up two-thirds of all two-wheeler sales in India. However, he acknowledged that electric motorcycle sales have yet to gain the same traction as electric scooters in the Indian market. The unveiling of the production version will be done on 15th August.  

A significant innovation in Ola’s new e-motorcycles will be the use of the 4680 indigenous cells, currently being produced at Ola’s Gigafactory. These cells are undergoing application testing and will first be introduced in the S1 range of scooters by early 2025. Notably, these cells contribute to 33% of the scooter’s cost, which is currently being imported from South Korea. By integrating their own cells, Ola aims to reduce production costs and increase profit margins. 

Ola’s new bikes are set to compete with 150cc-160cc models, boasting a top speed of around 130 km/h and a range of 180 km to 280 km. The motorcycles will likely feature a telescopic front suspension, rear mono-shock, digital instrument cluster, and all-LED lighting.
