Seven years on, we remember the victims of the London Bridge attack

Across the world, we have seen a rise in terrorist attacks that strike at the heart of society. Seven years ago, on this day, eight people were killed and 48 were injured in an attack that came to be known as the London Bridge attack. Eight people were killed and 48 injured as 3 attackers drove into pedestrians before going after pedestrians with knives. The trio of attackers were shot dead by police within eight minutes, as London Mayor Sadiq Khan vowed that “no stone is left unturned in building a safer London for everyone”.

Here, we remember a few of the victims of this attack.

Chrissy Archibald

A Canadian girl, Chrissy Archibald and her fiance, Tyler Ferguson went on a celebratory dinner on Saturday night, but as they crossed the London Bridge, she was hit by the van and Chrissy was stabbed by the attacker’s multiple times. She died in her fiance’s arm after being bashed by the attackers with multiple injuries.

Sara Zelenak

The youngest victim in this terrifying attack was Sara Zelenak, a 21-year-old Australian girl who worked hard for a better future. She was given Saturday off by coincidence and she happened to step in Borough Market with friends instead of Soho, which was planned earlier.

Xavier Thomas

Xavier Thomas was another victim who was walking hand in hand with his fiancee, Christine Delcros, over London Bridge on their way to ‘Shard’ for cocktails and dinner. But the van struck them, and Christine was deeply wounded. Whereas Xavier Thomas was thrown away in the river, the body was found after two days.

James McMullan

James McMullan died while saving Sara Zelenak who fell in her high heels on a wet pavement. James stepped outside of a Pub for a cigarette, that was the time when attackers van smashed into the railing. However, there was not enough time for them to get away.

Ignacio Echeverria

Ignacio Echeverria was the last person attacked, a 39 year old died from stab wounds in the back. He went to help two police officers but couldn’t save his own life.

The victims of this attack are still remembered with prayers and songs on its seventh anniversary, and one hopes that by honouring their memory, we can stand firm against and stamp out the senseless loss of life across the globe.
