In a landmark move to accelerate Maharashtra’s industrial growth, Finance Minister Ajit Pawar presented the state’s new industrial policy during the 11th state budget session in the assembly. The policy aims to attract Rs 40 lakh crore in investments and create 50 lakh jobs over the next five years, laying a strong foundation for the state’s economic prosperity. A key component of this policy is the launch of the “One District, One Product” initiative, designed to promote regional products and turn districts into specialized export hubs, further boosting the state’s economic development.
Maharashtra continues to assert its dominance as a leading industrial powerhouse, maintaining the top position in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country. At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2025, the state secured Rs 15.72 lakh crore in investments and committed to creating 16 lakh jobs through partnerships with 63 companies.
The state government has also implemented a comprehensive seven-point action plan under the Mahayuti government, covering investment promotion, infrastructure development, and ease of living, while ensuring transparent governance through a third-party evaluation system. In line with this, top-performing regional offices will be rewarded for their efficiency.
Beyond traditional industries, Maharashtra is targeting new growth areas, such as space and defence production, electronics, gems and jewellery, and the circular economy, alongside special policies for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The state is also adapting to the new national Labor Code, which will support labour reforms and create a more conducive environment for industrial growth.
To ensure sustainable growth, Maharashtra is placing strong emphasis on exports, with the “One District, One Product” scheme aimed at establishing district-based export promotion councils. Additionally, the state is fostering skill development by collaborating with organizations like Microsoft to train 10,000 women in Artificial Intelligence (AI) through the Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skill University.
This new policy and the “One District, One Product” initiative mark a significant step towards positioning Maharashtra as a global leader in industrial growth and export promotion, ultimately creating a robust economic ecosystem for future generations.
