Government to Soon Launch Portal to Track Every New Home in Maharashtra

In a bold step towards bringing clarity, accountability, and speed to the housing sector, the Government of Maharashtra has launched the State Housing Information Portal (SHIP) — a powerful digital platform designed to track every home being built across the state, along with its purpose, location, and target income group.

This initiative, described by senior officials as the “nerve centre” of the state’s new housing ecosystem, is a flagship reform under the Maharashtra State Housing Policy 2025, which received formal approval in July.

Real-Time information of new homes on a single click

For the first time, the state will offer a single, publicly accessible window that brings together data from all key housing initiatives — including MHADA, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), private developers, and even CSR-led rental housing schemes.

A senior Housing Department official likened it to “IRCTC for housing,” explaining that anyone — from citizens to policymakers — can now check where homes are being built, who is building them, and for which segment of society they are intended.

What can users do on SHIP?

  • Monitor the number and status of housing units being constructed across cities and districts
  • Filter projects by income group – from EWS and LIG to student housing and senior living
  • Verify if a project is MahaRERA-registered and compliant with regulations
  • Access data on land availability and ongoing public housing schemes

Powered by Data, Driven by Integration

SHIP isn’t just a static dashboard — it’s an intelligent, GIS-enabled platform that pulls live data from multiple government sources. It integrates with MahaRERA to track legal registration and project compliance, while also drawing updates from MHADA and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) to monitor the progress of public housing projects. It connects with MahaBhulekh to provide land records and identify available land parcels and reflects the status of housing schemes under PMAY and various CSR-led initiatives. Every project listed on SHIP is geo-tagged, offering a comprehensive, bird’s-eye view of Maharashtra’s housing landscape—accessible to both the public and internal government departments for effective planning and oversight.

Who Stands to Gain?

Citizens: Clear, verified updates on housing schemes, progress on MHADA lotteries, PMAY eligibility, and legal status of under-construction homes.

Developers: Better visibility for compliant projects, quicker approvals, and reduced bottlenecks in land and regulatory permissions.

Government: A central command centre to monitor project delays, reduce overlaps, and make informed, data-driven policy decisions.

Potential Model for the Nation

While other states operate housing dashboards under specific schemes like PMAY or RERA, Maharashtra’s SHIP stands apart for its comprehensive, cross-sectoral integration. It doesn’t just digitize one department — it brings the entire housing chain under one intelligent system. In an era where urban housing is both a social challenge and a political priority, this platform may well become a blueprint for nationwide adoption.

What Lies Ahead?

  • The beta version of SHIP is expected to go live later this year
  • District-specific dashboards on housing stock and land parcels are in the pipeline
  • Future upgrades may include citizen feedback modules, contractor performance tracking, and grievance redress mechanisms
