Salman Khan steps up for Assam flood victims, launches multi-phase relief drive through Being Human

During its ongoing struggle with one of the worst floods in its recent history, Assam seems to have received some relief in the form of a charity initiative by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Being Human, in conjunction with Salman Khan Fan Club (SKFC) Assam, launched a project to help the families affected by the natural calamity.

There are reports that Salman is personally managing the initiative while he is simultaneously getting his film directed by Vamshi Paidipally shot in Mumbai. The campaign is being carried out in three phases.

The first phase of the initiative includes distribution of ready-to-eat food packets to needy families in Sivasagar district, one of the worst-hit areas. Each packet involves items like biscuits, jaggery, poha, puffed rice, bread, cheese and jam, which should suffice for a few days. Besides food, the volunteers are also distributing drinking water, water purification tablets, sanitary napkins, mosquito coils and other supplies to meet the needs of people staying in flood-stricken areas.

The humanitarian efforts are projected to grow within the following days as the second phase of the initiative involves the provision of food packets and medicines, while the last phase is expected to be devoted to restoration of educational institutions and hospitals destroyed by the floods and assistance to the victims in the long-run.

The initiative took place at a time when large parts of the population of Assam suffered from massive floods, which led to a response from numerous individuals and organizations. Reports say that stars like Bhumi Pednekar supported the case through collaborating with charity organizations that work in the area, as well as musicians such as Papon and Vishal Dadlani who also took part in fundraising concerts.

After being known for his charitable deeds through Being Human, Salman Khan aims at helping people make recovery in a short period as well as contributing to the long-term recovery from floods.
