Varsha Gaikwad Questions Amit Shah Over Student Crackdown

New Delhi, August 3: Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad on Monday launched a sharp attack on the central government, alleging that students protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi were subjected to “brutal treatment” by police forces under the Home Ministry.

Gaikwad questioned who gave orders for the alleged lathi-charge and use of pellet guns against students, demanding accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. She also alleged that Shah has been absent from Parliament for the past two weeks and should address the issue on the floor of the House.

“The government must answer why tear gas, lathi-charge and pellet guns were used against young protesters. The Home Minister should take responsibility and explain the action,” Gaikwad said.

She accused the BJP government of displaying an “authoritarian attitude” by attempting to suppress the voices of young people. Referring to the case involving former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, she alleged that the government had ignored the concerns of women protesters and accused it of being “anti-women.”

Gaikwad said the youth of the country would not forgive the government for what she described as unjust treatment of students and protesters.
