Passengers Endorse Pratap Sarnaik’s Decision; ST Ridership More Than Doubles on Kalyan–Murbad Route

Trips Increased from 48 to 108; Over 5,000 Daily Commuters Opt for ‘Rajmata Jijau’ Bus Service

Mumbai, August 3: The decision by Maharashtra Transport Minister and Chairman of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Pratap Sarnaik, to increase the number of State Transport (ST) bus trips on the Kalyan–Murbad route has received an overwhelming response from commuters. According to MSRTC data, the move has significantly boosted both daily ridership and average occupancy.

Until May 5, 2026, only 48 daily round trips operated on the route, serving an average of 2,238 passengers each day. However, growing demand had led to repeated complaints from local representatives, with many commuters forced to rely on unsafe and illegal transport services. Following a fatal accident linked to inadequate transport facilities, Minister Sarnaik directed MSRTC officials to immediately increase bus services on the route.

As a result, the number of daily trips has been raised from 48 to 108, leading to a sharp rise in daily ridership to 5,080 passengers—more than double the previous figure. The introduction of modern ‘Rajmata Jijau’ buses has also received an enthusiastic response from commuters.

Additionally, passengers from the Murbad–Saralgaon region can now board and alight from buses heading towards Umbar, Ahilyanagar, and other destinations, improving connectivity and convenience.

Speaking on the initiative, Pratap Sarnaik said that providing safe, reliable, and timely public transport remains MSRTC’s top priority. He added that services will continue to be expanded on high-demand routes, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the ST network, which serves as a lifeline for the people of Maharashtra.
